Welcome to the official Charlie Bone website. The Charlie Bone series is by authoress Jenny Nimmo. There are six books to date; the latest instalment is Charlie Bone and the Wilderness Wolf.
The stories are centred on Charlie Bone, a young boy and descendant of The Red King, who reluctantly possesses a powerful endowment, along with many of his friends who he meets at a special school he attends called Bloor's Academy. His family, the Yewbeams, have many dark secrets and Charlie Bone embarks on a series of mysterious adventures to find out the truth about his past. |
Since his father died, Charlie Bone has lived with his mother and her mother, in the house of his other grandmother, Grandma Bone. Looking at a picture of a couple with a baby and a cat, he suddenly discovers he can hear their voices. Although he tries to hide his new gift, Grandma Bone's scary sisters soon find out, and determine to send him to Bloor's Academy. Mr Onimous appears, and tells Charlie Bone he must find the baby from the photograph, lost inside Bloor's. The mystery deepens when Charlie tries to return the picture to its rightful owner, a bookseller who gives him a heavy box, saying only that it was once swapped for a child.
Charlie Bone quickly finds life at Bloor's pretty tough, with its strict rules and the malevolent head boy, Manfred, set against him. He meets someone else with a gift, Gabriel Silk, who can pick up people's feeling from their clothes. Charlie asks about his father's tie, and Gabriel surprises him by saying his father is lost, not dead.
Mr Onimous' cats have been involved in a mysterious fire at the school, and more frightening than that, Manfred's sinister gift is to be able to hypnotise people. Exploring at the weekend with new friends Olivia and Billy, Charlie overhears a conversation between Dr Bloor and Manfred. They discover the cats are eight hundred years old, and that Bloor and Manfred are keeping a girl under hypnosis. Charlie Bone realises the girl from the photograph must be Emilia Moon and manages to awaken her using the box. The hypnotism cannot be proved to the authorities and the children will have to return next term, once more under the power of Dr Bloor. |
January 1916. On the coldest night in memory, Henry Yewbeam's cousin Zeke tricks him into using the Time Twister, a beautiful marble full of shining colours that draws him into the future.
January 2002. Charlie Bone meets Henry reappearing at Bloor's in the twenty-first century, and realises Henry's cousin is none other than old Ezekiel Bloor. Charlie and Fidelio are joined by Cook and the Flames in their attempts to hide Henry from Ezekiel's spies. Of the other endowed children, Emma is distant, Lysander and Tancred have fallen out, and Gabriel is crippled by a mysterious black glove that once belonged to Mrs Bloor, whose hand was crushed by her own son Manfred, just as she tried to escape. Charlie Bone's talent is expanding but Uncle Paton's attempt to avoid exploding light bulbs isn't completely successful. Charlie runs into Mr Onimous again at the Pets' Café, although Asa has to be chased off by the town's dog. But Manfred has captured Henry, and although Mrs Bloor tried to save him, she vanishes with the Time Twister. With the help of the endowed, Charlie Bone must enter the portrait of Skarpo the sorcerer and retrieve the wand of a Welsh wizard. Rescuing Henry through a secret tunnel leading from the Pets' Café to Bloors, Charlie takes him home to his brother, James, now an old man, looked after by Cook's sister, Pearl. Everyone thoroughly enjoys Uncle Paton's birthday party, especially when Tancred's father blows the Yewbeam aunts down the street. |

Charlie Bone's Uncle Paton has dashed off to try to stop the Yewbeam aunts' latest plan, and Benjamin has dumped Runner Bean on him to fly off on holiday with his parents. Grandma Bone greets the arrival of Belle with delight, but could this be what Paton left hoping to prevent? At Bloor's, Emma realises Mr Boldova is the brother of the mysterious person who tried to help her escape, Ollie Sparks. The boa had made him invisible, but Charlie and the endowed hope to restore him. In the King's Room, Belle joins the endowed (her strange eyes changing colour), while Charlie tries to reach the Red King through his picture. Somehow, he only ever reaches a picture of a red tree. Belle, Charlie and Mr Boldova realise it is Yolanda, an evil shapeshifter who brought up Charlie's nasty aunts, and she's out to get Mr Boldova. Once she wipes his mind, only Billy Raven can say what happened to him, by talking to Mr Boldova's rat, Rembrandt. Soon Charlie Bone will have to face the terrible sorcerer Skarpo again to free his friend. |

Charlie Bone and his friends are back in danger, and the balance of power between the Children of the Red King has never been more dangerous. Billy finally gets his longed-for parents, but he soon wishes he hadn't when the oaths he's forced to sign come flying through the air at him. Charlie Bone is haunted by a ghostly horse, mad with rage over an ancient wrong that happened in the sparkling Castle of Mirrors. The castle was turned from stone into glass by the sorcerer Yorath in a terrible fire. Charlie's good friend Olivia is haunted too - but no one knows her new secret. Even with the power of Tancred's storms and Lysander's ancestors, Charlie Bone is running short of allies - just when he needs them most. |
Charlie Bone awakes one morning to find the city covered with snow and all the animals gone. Where have they gone - and why? Blessed the dog tells Billy there was a terrible shuddering of the earth and immediately after, he saw a witch with two shadows crossing the hall in Bloor's Academy.
Could the discovery of an ancient mirror, and the movement of the shadow in the Red King's portrait have something to do with it? And a strange girl appears outside Charlie's house. She tells him he must follow her to find the animals. Can he trust her, and will she perhaps lead him to find someone he lost long before the animals? |

Charlie Bone has finally found his father, but he's disappeared again. However, this time Charlie knows where he is - on a second honeymoon with his mother. But there's no time to miss them, for there's a strange salty mist in the air, and chilling howls in the night. And someone has been searching Charlie Bone's house. What are they looking for? And could Dagbert, the new boy with pale lips and cold aquamarine eyes, have something to do with it? The new boy with the power of harnessing water, whose father has Cook so rattled she's threatening to leave the school. The new boy who sticks so closely to Charlie, his friends are almost driven away. Something is going on - and the Bloors have to be behind it. Charlie Bone and his friends must find the creature who howls so desperately. But will they be in time? |
