Dr. Stein rubbed his hands together gleefully. Finally, after years of hard work and failed experiments, tonight was the night!
As lights flashed and thunder rumbled, the boy sat up on the bench, glaring at Dr Stein warily.
Dr Stein looked him over. Two eyes, one nose, one mouth, normal size, everything where it should be on the face, two arms and two legs, no missing fingers, toes or ears...
He looked completely normal.
Another failure!
"Rats!" the Doctor cried, throwing his glasses onto the bench and sighing heavily before sending the creature down to the basement.
---
Dr Frank Stein lives, like most strange and odd villains, in a large, imposing castle, situated in the middle of nowhere. And like in most scary movies, this particular night is incredibly stormy.
Dr Stein's life ambition is to create the scariest monster ever. He has no idea what he's going to do with it when it is created, he hasn't thought that far ahead. All he knows is that he want's to follow in his families footsteps. He want's to create life.
He has done it many times now, which to most people would be considered a huge success, but to him, it's nothing.
He hasn't created a monster yet, and his 'failures' mean nothing to him. Creature after creature, they are sent down to the basement, were he Doctor assumes they will 'stop working' sooner or later. They all look completely normal, and that's not ok in his books.
But he is wrong. They won't 'stop working'. These 'creatures' are living down in the basemet, never eating, never drinking, never sleeping, never aging... but living, still.
Bored out of their minds.
A few miles off, a car full of teenagers breaks down. And like in most scary movies, the only building for miles around is Dr Steins castle. They have no signal on their mobiles, no way of communicating with anyone not with them, no umbrellas so they can venture outside and hope to not be hit by rain or lightning whilst moving, no choice but to head up to Dr Stein's castle and ask to use his phone.
Just like a scary movie.
However, when they enter, they cannot find the Doctor, and find themselves in the basement, with the 'failures'.
The failures wan't nothing more than to escape the horrid castle, and see the sunlight instead of the dark basement. The group of teenagers want out of this nightmare. Can they help each other out?

Jane plonked herself down onto the hard concrete floor, scrabbling for the packet of matches that she knew were on the floor somewhere. Once she had a grip on the small box, she searched the floor for an abandoned candle to light.
Eventually lighting the candle, she leant against the wall, sighing. Curse Doctor Stein for not putting electricity or heating in the basement! Sure, he obviously never thought he'd need it, but fumbling about in the dark, trying not to bump into anyone or anything, got tiresome, and well... irritating after a while.
The basement was full of old junk that the Doctor, and the people who had lived here before him, had left. Old furniture, broken tables, ruined objects that the 'Creatures' couldn't make head nor tail of... but in the small light of the candle, they could only make out shadowy lumps.
"Anyone else got any candles, or can find any?" Jane called out, and heard the sound of the battered chest of drawers opening and closing.

"I think I have one." Addison called out to where a lump she assumed was Jane was sitting against the wall. "But it might just be a stick of some sort. It feels like wax..." Addie fumbled with the drawers, searching for any more candle-like items, and after deciding there weren't any, she made her way over to where Jane was sitting and sat next to her.
"I am so sick of the dark. The scientist could be at least be so kind as to put a lamp or something down here. After all, we are his responsibility." she said. "Maybe we could build a fire. I can't see a thing down here."

"His responsibility? Suppose we are, Addie. Thing is, we aint scary. So we're dumped down here. Only light we ever see is when another poor failure is tossed down here with the rest of us. Then the door closes and it's dark again." Jane sighed, hugging her knees.
"Fire might be nice. theres plenty of sofas to burn down here, and it might provide some heat... Might get outta control though." She sighed again, crossing her legs.
"I've heard the machines up and running again. D'ya think a new friend will be visiting soon?"

"I hope not," Diana muttered from a corner, "It's packed in her. What do you think he expects us to do, stop programming, we're not automatons, for God's sake!" She shook her head at Jane, wondering how could she have stood this for so long.
"When's that doctor going to realize that he can't create a monster," Diana sighed frustrated, "I really would like to get out of here."

Whitney was just driving through the rain with her friends when she heard a huge clap of thunder. Then the car stopped. She looked past her friends, who had stopped horsing around when they heard the thunder, at her friend Cortney who was old enough to drive. "Well, start the car again." she said to her. "I can't" Cortney replied. Whitney looked out the windows and saw a house. Well most people would call it a huanted mansion. But the reason it was scary, was the fact that it looked like the type that had a mad scientist and his evil inventions. "Well, it looks like theres only one place to go," She said. As they piled out of the car she tried to see how far the castle was. She looked at her friends and started walking twored the mansion. Then she broke into a run. Oddly enough she was so curious that wanted to get there quickly. As she neared she realized that her friends weren't following. She kept running and left them behind. She didn't care. She was about to knock when the door opened of it's own accord. She slowly walked inside. Then the doors banged shut behind her. As she walked inside she yelled to see if someone was home. Maybe no one lives here she thought. Then she saw a strange door. It read DO NOT ENTER in big yellow words. she took the chance and opened the door.

Human or Creature?: Human
Name: Tyler
Age: 14
Gender: Male
Personality: Usually keeps to himself. Isn't very talkative but more of a quiet thinker. Very bright and kind if you can get him to talk to you.
Appearance: Tall for his age and looks older than he really is. ____gy medium length black hair and deep blue eyes.
Other:
Tyler watched the rain drip down the car windows as they sped along the street. The car soon pulled to a stop. He paused his ipod and yanked out his headphones. Tyler followed the Whitney out of the car and up to the ominous looking mansion. He pulled up the hood of his sweatshirt and kicked up the water on the ground as he walked. Tyler looked straight up at the tall dark mansion when they reached the door. Whitney quickly swung open the door and headed in. Tyler wordlessly followed close behind her. As soon as they were inside Tyler shook off his hood and observed his surroundings. His eyes fell upon a staircase leading to what appeared to be a basement. He squinted and could barely make out a faint flickering light. "Let's go down there. There's light." Tyler told Whitney already at the staircase. His black converse hit the first step with a loud creak. He stopped waiting to make sure no one heard. Silence. He continued down the wooden steps. He froze at the bottom of the staircase. Several people were huddled around candles in the dark. What's going on? Tyler thought.

Jane was just dozing off when she heard a creak on the stairs leading to the basement. Surely the Doctor wasn't sending another creature down?
Her head snapped up as she saw two shilouettes on the doorway, blinking as she squinted in the dark. Scrambling to her feet, she saw that the two newcomers looked just like the creatures. Was the Doctor making them in twos now?
"Are you a newbie?" she asked, breaking the silence and picking up a candle to see the newcomers faces clearer.

Tyler stepped down on to the cold concrete floor. A girl in the corner suddenly stood up and was looking curiously at him and Whitney. "Are you a newbie?" she asked, breaking the silence and picking up a candle to see the newcomers faces clearer. "Huh?" Tyler asked, puzzled by the girl's question. "A newbie to what? What are you talking about?" He glanced around the room at the other boys and girls then back up at the one he was talking to. "Why are you guys down here anyways? Do you live here?"

"A newbie. Surely you must be, to be sent down here. You look perfectly normal, nothing creepy 'bout ya. The Doctor created you, right?" Jane asked, eyeing the boy warily. "You're a failure. Just like us? And yeah, we live here."
She noticed his hair was incredibly dark, none of the creatures had hair that colour. The girl standing next to him had dark hair too, Jane noted. Did the Doctor make these two a pair?
"Do you have any idea what I'm on about? Don't worry, being suddenly created does take a while to get used to. Life takes a while to get used to. So, did the Doctor give you a name?" Jane grinned, bringing the candle closer to the boys face.

Tyler took a pause just to make sure he had covered everything she just asked. "Oh yeah, my name's Tyler and my mom gave it to me, not the Doctor." He told her giving her a puzzled look. "This is Whitney." He said gesturing to his friend. "The hair isn't normal, So i don't trust them.... unless.Do you have cheese?" She sighed and turned back to the newcomers. "Not created? Then... how did you get here? Are you humans beans, like the Doctor? and if so... are you like, his new assistants? Does he want us back in the lab?"
Jane took a step back, a worried look etched on her face. "Tyler and Whitney... hmph. If he's wanting me back in that stupid lab, Doctor Stein is gonna have to drag me up there himself! I hate that guy! leaving us down here without even a freain' radiator or lightbulb!"

But clearly we have found so much more than that..." He trailed off and was soon lost in thought. He looked up realizing he had left the girl hanging. "So what's your name? And why would you need to go to his 'lab'?" Tyler stared at the boy who had come up earlier asking for cheese. What is wrong these people?

She threw her arms up in the air, then remembered she was holding a candle and winced as the melted wax spashed on her hand.
"Anyway, I'm Jane." she said through gritted teeth, trying not to show that she was in pain. "Stupid wax... So uh... you need a phone? You aint gonna find one here. Only electricity is the Doctor's equipment."

Addie had been quietly walking towards Jane, staying close to the walls so she wouldn't be seen. She didn't like the looks of the newcomers, their hair was a giveaway, they weren't creatures. They didn't even seem to have a clue where they were.
Coming out of the darkness to stand behind Jane, Addie got a better look at the people's faces. The boy looked about her age, maybe a bit older, and the girl looked about the same. They both looked really confused, and Jane didn't seem to be doing a great job at explaining what was going on. Maybe I can help? she thought.
Clearing her throat, Addie tried to explain. This was the moment when she seemed the smallest, the most pathetic, when she was getting over the first hurdle of meeting someone new. After that she certainly did not seem pathetic. "We are creations." Addie said, her voice small. "The doctor made us. He thought we would... stop working? If he left us down here. But we didn't. The only reason he would want us back up would be to destroy us."
Coming a bit further out from behind Jane, she continued. "We're failures because the doctor wanted something scary. We look regular. He has no use for us."

"The only phone is where the doctor is? Shoot." Tyler muttered to himself. "How are we supposed to get home.." He looked up when he heard another voice. A girl, about his age maybe younger, had emerged from her dark hiding spot and stood behind Jane. Tyler couldn't help but stare into her beautiful deep green eyes. He snapped himself out of his trance and tried to laugh it off, running his hand through his messy hair. "Uh, hi I'm Tyler. What's your name?" He introduced himself, a bit flustered. "So um, he tossed you here because you're not scary?" Tyler laughed. "I for one and glad you're not scary." He said smiling at her.

Whitney jabbed Tyler with her elbow. There was no time for flirting! They needed to find out what was going on. She had stood quietly and listened but now she had to say what was on her mind. She would explode if she didn't.
"Look guys it's nice to meetcha but we sort of need a way to get our car running. It's like past my curfew as it is and my mom gets worried if I'm gone for too long after it." That was the most polite way to say it. She wanted to scream I just want to get home! I didn't want to be in a crazy scientists house! I just came here to look for help! None of us have cell phone service out here or I would have called for a tow truck already! Why did I have to be the brave one! Why would she she scream that to a room of strangers?

"I don't want to be rude, but if there was a way out we'd not be here," Diana said flatly. "I'm sorry, but for right now, you really need to stay here. If you just walk out of the castle, if you could ever find a way. Stein will probably think you're just another creation and shove you back in here." She pitied the girl but not as much as the rest of the creatures, Diana gave a curt nod to the boy, she never understood guys and rarely interacted with them. "Ow. Okay, sorry. Geez." Tyler muttered. He quietly listened to Whitney's speech knowing that she was frantic inside. Diana explained some more and Tyler gave it some thought. "Look Whitney, I don't think we have a choice." He looked at all the 'humanoids' desperate for a way to get out. "Apparently we're stuck here and so are they. Or heat? I might be able to fix the light problem for a while." She reached inside her sweatshirt pocket. She knew she had some sort of light on her. Not finding the flashlight she usually kept in there, she searched her belt loops. She knew that she had a clipy thing that held her keys. It had a light on it. "Here you - Whoa." She said holding the light up. There was a lot more creature things down here then she thought.

Addison just looked back and forth between Tyler and Whitney. She was confused, she didn't understand what had just happened. "I can be quite scary if I want." she snapped. "And my name is Addison. Or Addie." she said, her tone less sharp as she introduced herself. "Okay, don't go talk to the doctor. Your just going to get us all stuck in here. Maybe we can..." she trailed off as the light Whitney had illuminated the room.
"Oh my...." Addie said, squinting hard. It had been forever since she had seen such a bright light. It kind of hurt her eyes. But the creations... There were so many. We all want to get out of here. But how can we accomplish that?" Tyler rambled trying to think of a plan. "I don't know." Tyler finished after a couple moments. Addie thought back. She had started to say her plan idea, but had stopped when the light was shined. Now she was trying to remember what her idea had been. It had something to do with...
"Oh, I remember." she said. "I had started to say something, but seeing... everyone, I stopped. Anyway, I had a very basic plan idea. We've heard the machines running a lot recently, and every time they run, they run for about and hour. That's at least what it sounds like to me.
"As far as I can remember, which honestly isn't much, the doctor never left the lab while his machines were running. So that gives us about an hour to escape from this place the next time he starts to use the machine. The door is open now, so the problem of getting out isn't difficult. It's just the problem of finding the door.
"Once we find the door, we should get all the creatures out and hiding in the woods. Then we can work on the problem of calling a tow truck to fix your car. I assume we could be able to sneak a phone call while the doctor is sleeping..." She trailed off, looking around at everyone. "Um... what do you think?"

"Well, we're not completely underground." Diana said. "I think maybe if we can see if there's a tiny peek hole of light, that would work. But, I'm not really a fan of the moon or the night." She looked over at Addie and gave a tiny smile. "The doctor's no good, so in no time he'll have another reject. So, we'll spread out to fine the door in every nook and cranny. What we should do is, if the door is locked and the doctor throws away his newest failure, we'll all hold open the door and persuade him to let us go. I don't knwo if it'll work, but it sounds good."

Addie paused. Now that Jane brought it up, she wasn't exactly sure what a car was. It was some form of transportation, but was it on tracks or the road or... Addie just couldn't remember. She knew Jane had told her once before, but it had been so long ago.
"I-I'm pretty sure a car goes on the road, right? A taxi was the thing on the tracks.... but then where does the train go? I know a train takes people somewhere... but I also know it's not on the road. Does a train go on water? I just can't seem to remember. But I am sure that a car is on the road... I think."

"No... I think a plane goes on water. And a boat is in the sky, right? And a helicopter also goes on water... am I right?"
At that moment, the candle wick burned its last and promptly extinguished itself, and Jane let out a cry of frustration, dropping the useless candle and crawling over to where the hoped she had left the matches and spare candles, patting the floor as she went.
As the girls magic light swooped around, she spotted them and picked a few up. They had a different source of light now, but they still needed heat. The newcomers had thick clothing, but Jane was in a thin top and jeans.
"Sorry. Where were we, Addie?" She looked back around, and saw only the girl sanding there.
"Uh, where did the boy go?" Jane asked, snatching the girls torch and waving the light across the walls, trying to spot the black haired boy among the crowd of creatures who merged with the shadows.

"He slunk over there and shrank against the wall," said Whitney pointing. "And guys? Cars and taxi's go on the road. Trains go on tracks. Boats go in water. Helicopters and airplanes go in the sky." She sort of understood why they were confused. They had probably been down there for a long time. "Alright if we can't talk to this Doctor guy then we'll go with The Diana girl's plan. but maybe Tyler and I could stay right outside the door but hidden so we can help grab him or something. It's the best plan we've got. We have to start with something. I think it could work if we try it." She was pretty much ready to do anything. She wanted to get home, go to bed, and forget about this whole thing.
